Carriers Local moms Brenda Trudell and Emily Millar demonstrating carriers that Carry the Future is looking for.

Mt. Horeb residents have a meaningful opportunity to help refugee families this holiday season. Local residents (and mothers) Emily Millar and Dr. Brenda Trudell- Kazda of New Beginnings chiropractic are collecting gently used baby carriers for the relief organization Carry the Future. The organization’s primary goal is to provide relief to refugees by giving baby carriers to families with babies and toddlers while they are on their journeys to asylum. Volunteers hand-deliver the carriers to refugees and also fit them and instruct them on proper use to ensure safety for the baby and longevity of the carrier.

In the words of founder Cristal Logothetis: “All they’re trying to do is get to a better place and protect their family. Not only do they have a problem solved for them by receiving a carrier, but they realize that people care about them, that people want to help.Logothetis founded Carry the Future after seeing images of refugee parents struggling to carry their babies over long distances.

Already, Carry the Future has personally fitted over 3,000 parents with carriers and received reports of refugees safely making it to Germany wearing donated carriers! They are looking for soft structured carriers – these are basically any carrier that has clasps or harnesses. Their favorites are Baby Bjorn, Kolcraft, MobyGo, Mei Teis, Tulla and Ergo, but they accept all brands of SSCs. They are not accepting wraps or slings at this time because they have only 2 minutes per family to give instructions on how to use the carrier.

If you have such a carrier that your family no longer needs, please consider donating it! If you like, pin a note to the refugee who will be receiving your carrier using a paper clip. If your carrier has a pocket, you can also stuff it with items such as a plush toy, baby/toddler socks/hat/mittens, high protein snacks and/or electrolyte or vitamin packets. You can also donate new carriers if you are so moved.

There will be a collection box located inside New Beginnings Chiropractic, at 1861 Springdale St Mount Horeb, WI. (The same shopping complex as Miller’s grocery store.) Please direct any questions you may have to Emily Millar, 608-444-7584. Thank you!

Best times to drop off carriers at New Beginnings Chiropractic are Monday 10-4, Tuesdays and Thursdays 12-6, and Fridays 9-1. Please call Brenda Trudell at 608-963-6748 if these times do not work for you.
