Kinesiology Applied Kinesiology
(AK) is an interdisciplinary approach to health care which draws together core
elements of complementary therapies, creating a more unified approach to the diagnosis
and treatment of functional illness. Included in the AK approach are specific
joint adjustments, various myofascial (muscle tension releasing) techniques, cranial
techniques, meridian therapy (used with acupressure), clinical nutrition, dietary
management, and various reflex procedures. AK uses muscle testing to examine how
the body is functioning and to make a diagnosis. AK uses functional assessment
measures such as posture and gait analysis; manual muscle testing as functional
neurologic evaluation; range of motion; static palpitation; and motion analysis.
So what does this mean?? Basically, by testing the strength of one muscle, say
an arm muscle, while the doctor presses on another area, say a cervical vertebra
(bone), he or she can determine if the vertebrae is subluxated. The arm strength
test is measuring the neurologic response between the vertebra in question and
how the body can adapt to it, not the actual strength of the deltoid muscle. Once
the vertebra is properly adjusted, a repeat muscle test will now show up as strong
instead of weak! The body has many ways to tell us what is wrong, we just need
to know where to look! For more info visit the AK website. Back
