Spring has sprung! The weather is warmer and plants are sprouting and growing again. It isthe perfect time to do a detox program! Maybe you have thought about doing a detox before,
but were overwhelmed by the variety and types of programs offered. Maybe the idea ofdetoxing is intimidating or just plain weird. Speaking from personal experience, I can tell you it
can be challenging. However, the reward comes when you’ve completed the detox program. You feel like a new person, physically and mentally!
Let’s explore some common hesitations many of us have when thinking about doing a detoxprogram.
I’m a health conscious person. I eat well and exercise regularly. I don’t need to detox.
Reality: 100% of the general population has tested positive for toxic residues in their blood andurine samples. Every day of our lives we are exposed to and consume toxic substances. Theyare in the air we breath in our homes, the workplace, and the environment. Toxins are in thecosmetics, lotions and other substances we absorb through our skin. They are in the foods we eat and the beverages we consume. Our body is constantly breaking down toxins in our blood and digestive tract. In the process, free radicals are produced that damage our cells and lead to less than optimal function or worse, illness. Our body is equipped to handle toxins, but too much of anything can be overwhelming and lead to malfunctions and breakdowns.
I will be hungry all the time. The diet will be different than what I am used to eating and
drinking.
Reality: Participating in a detox program is an eye opening experience, sometimes even life
changing! The detox plans I use do not limit how much you can eat, rather what you can eat.
By virtue of changing what you eat, your relationship to food and eating will be in the spotlight.
Keep in mind that hunger is not the same as craving. Processed, refined foods are eliminated.
All vegetables and fruits are included. Foods that can commonly cause irritation and
inflammation in the body, like wheat and dairy, are not consumed. On one hand, meals are
easier to prepare as all that may be involved is steaming, boiling, or sauteing. The best thing to
do if you are worried about being hungry on a detox diet is to prepare by planning ahead and
making sure certain foods are both in and out of your kitchen.
Detox programs are too complicated!
Reality: They can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make them. The key to a
successful detox is making sure you have a well laid out plan of how and when to start it, as well
as end it. The 7 day detox program I use for myself and my patients includes a well laid out
plan for each of the seven days, how to come out of the detox, a shopping list, menu ideas and
supportive measures you can use to enhance the detox. You can check in for guidance and
support as often as you need.
Fatigue, allergies, indigestion, pain, acne. These conditions and many more can be impacted
greatly by detoxing. The 7 day detox program I offer can give you a glimpse of how good you
can feel and how much your symptoms can improve. This is your chance to kick start the
changes you want to make in your life. You may have a certain health goal you want to
achieve. Perhaps you want to create a new habit or leave an old one behind. This 7 day detox
diet provides that opportunity. If you want to discuss how this program can impact your life and
health, call me to set up a complimentary 20 minute meeting.
Daily Detox Tip
Begin each day by drinking a cup of hot water containing 1 tablespoon of lime or lemon juice to
stimulate internal cleansing.
