Caring for the Special Needs of Pregnant Women, Babies, Kids, and Their Families
The prenatal period is a wonderful time of joy and excitement, as parents wait in anticipation to meet their little one. But for some women, it may be a period of stress, pain, and discomfort, or just not feeling well. We want your pregnancy to be as comfortable as possible, but also the healthiest it can be for you AND your baby. A mama-to-be who gets adjusted regularly throughout her pregnancy is not just improving her neurology and physiology, but more importantly, that of her unborn child. This is where pre-conception chiropractic intervention can help.
Getting mom balanced, into a calmer state, healthy, comfortable, and properly lining things up for birth with better outcomes are all chiropractic benefits for kids. We focus on working with pregnant women because we know that we can positively influence both mom and baby, a 2-for-1 adjustment! We understand that a healthier mom means a healthier baby, and that is possible through the power of chiropractic.
Once a baby is born, it is important for mom and baby to both get checked as soon as possible. This ensures a healthy start for the baby, and for getting mom back in balance after birth. Many new moms report fewer issues with breastfeeding, colic, reflux, sleep, and ear infections when their newborns and infants are getting regular chiropractic adjustments.
Adjustments for mom-to-be and the newborn are safe, very gentle, and effective. Dr. Trudell, DC, CACCP, has extensive chiropractic training working with these special populations and sees pregnant women and babies on a daily basis. She uses special pillows and tables to accommodate mom’s growing belly for a comfortable and safe experience, and low force adjusting instruments for babies and kids. We use state-of-the-art, safe, non-invasive nervous system scanning technology to take a deeper look into the nervous system to find areas of stress and tension. Find out more information about our thermal scan, sEMG, and Heart Rate Variability (HRV) scans.
Kids and Chiropractic
Babies and children are more susceptible to injury and neurological damage today than ever before. Injury from birth trauma, exposure to chemicals, toxins in vaccines, exposure to GMO’s and artificial food ingredients, and overuse of many medications, are causing significant issues at a very young age. Chiropractic adjustments have a positive effect on babies and children and may offer relief for many conditions by balancing and clearing tension in the nervous system. In our office, chiropractic care has been beneficial for:
Colic
Ear Infections/Sinus Issues
Breastfeeding Difficulties
Reflux/GERD
Sleep Issues
Lip/Tongue Tie
Torticollis/Plagiocephaly (flat spot on the skull)
Retained Primitive Reflexes
Nighttime Bedwetting
Coughs, Colds, and Flu
Falls and Trauma
10 Most Common Reasons Children Visit The Chiropractor:
The ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association) puts out informative monthly newsletters on chiropractic and nutrition for pregnancy, infant, child, and family health. At our office, we have a binder of their archived newsletters that you are welcome to read and photocopy at any time. Check out the latest chiropractic research for prenatal and pediatric populations.
NeuroRehab Activity Area
For many children (and adults!), we offer specific NeuroExercises to help re-train the brain and increase positive proprioception and feedback after adjustments. Dr. Trudell has been trained on numerous activities and techniques to help establish better brain hemisphere and brain-to-body communication. This, along with regular chiropractic care, can help many kids who have balance and coordination issues, problems with gait, problems with focus, behavioral issues, sensory processing issues, learning disorders, social communication issues, cognitive dysfunction, low muscle tone, postural imbalances and much more. We have activities and instructions set up all over our office and encourage patients to do the activities here at the office. Many can also be done at home, which can enhance the power of the adjustment!
Some examples include cross-crawling, Brain Gym, balance, vibration, primitive reflex exercises, brain stimulation activities, physioball activities, core work, upper cervical exercises, and more.

The birth process can be very stressful to the infant’s spine, even in the best possible birth situations. To help get your baby off to the best possible start, Dr. Trudell encourages you to bring him or her in for the Baby’s First Visit Checkup within 4 weeks of their birth. This includes thorough infant chiropractic and neurological physical and exam, thermal scan, and report of findings at no charge. If we find areas that are subluxated from the birth process, we will show you where those areas are, and adjust them with safe and gentle chiropractic adjustments. Please let Dr. Trudell know if you have any questions.
