Why October is the Perfect Month to Reset Your Health
For almost 20 years now (OMG, how?), we have been celebrating National Chiropractic Health Month in October. What started out as a time to discuss more biomechanical and pain-related issues like sciatica, has now become a chance to truly enlighten people on the REAL benefits of chiropractic care from a neurological, family-centered approach. It doesn’t mean we don’t still see adults with pain issues, it simply means we can help a lot more people of all ages with many other things that improve overall health, development and quality of life, without the use of unnecessary medications and surgeries.
While we actually celebrate the chiropractic lifestyle all 12 months of the year, October and fall in general have unique features that make this time of year the most crucial time to get families under regular chiropractic care. Think of all the things happening– back to school stress (impacts parents and teachers, too), less sunlight (vitamin D), more time indoors (germs), less fresh, in-season produce (vitamins, antioxidants and minerals), the start of “Sugar Holidays” and comfort food (slows digestion and tanks immune system), more time in artificial and blue light (messes up melatonin), postural spinal stress (prolonged sitting at desks, staring at screens, heavy backpacks, sports), time stress (fitting in activities after school, hours of homework, eating on the go). It’s easy to see how the many things we do this time of year make it harder for the nervous system to do its job and properly regulate the rest of the body. Chiropractic adjustments have a downstream effect on the entire body, and improve overall function and quality of life.
An October Reset can mean a stronger immune system and getting sick less often during the holidays and winter months. It can mean an easier school year transition with improved focus and concentration, and less headaches and tummy aches due to stress. It can help with more sleep, better seasonal moods, improved digestion. There is so much change this time of year, and a regulated and balanced nervous system is the first line of defense at handling all the stressors.
Think about how much more enjoyable the “happiest time of the year” could be if everyone in the house wasn’t sick, sad, grumpy, stressed or in pain? Imagine ending the year on a strong note, instead of tanking your health and waiting until January 1st to make sweeping changes and bold declarations for your health. Take charge now, and make the last 3 months the best of all of 2025.
